SLEEP
ZENBIVY - STUFFABLE PILLOW - CLEAN JAMMIES
If you want to improve your riding, improve your sleep.
I tried the regular sleeping bag, the mummy bag, the down sleeping bag, the air pillow, the foam pillow, the regular pad, the lightweight pad, and nothing ever felt comfortable. I slept ok, but not great. That is, until I got a recommendation from Dr Brad. He was using the Zenbivy setup at a rally and said it was the best thing ever. I can’t really argue with a doctors recommendation. I waited until it went on sale and got the whole setup; lightweight pad with the mylar lining, the synthetic down quilt rated to 25, the bedsheet that attaches the quilt to the pad and the stuff sacks that go with it.
The thing that actually sold me on this was the quilt design. It allows you to have it partially open if you want, and it’s not constricting. I like room at my feet so this works great.
The pad and the quilt work extremely well in low temperatures. My back never gets cold and the quilt stays comfortably warm, it breathes a bit so you don’t feel like a “frakking” tamale.
In addition to my new sleeping setup, I changed a couple of things on my end.
I got used to sleeping on my back with a very small-thin pillow. The stuffable pillow by RUMPL is great for this, I just add a couple of shirts or a soft jacket and call it good.
I now bring a pair of base layers that I only wear to sleep. It’s nice getting into bed with clean-ish layers. I highly recommend it.
If you sleep well in your current system, do not change a thing, but if you don’t, give this a try.
